What is a root canal?
A root canal is the common term for root canal therapy, which is an endodontic treatment. The goal of root canal therapy is to restore the health and function of a tooth that is severely infected or decayed. During root canal therapy, our talented dentist will remove the infected tissues from the tooth. This usually includes the dental pulp (the soft layer in the center of the tooth) and the tooth nerves. Dr. Alexander Larsen and Dr. Travis W. Storey will then fill in the tooth with a medicated material and cap the tooth with a filling or dental crown to restore the function and structure of the tooth. In most cases, we can complete a root canal in Orem, Utah, in just one or two visits to our dental office.
Do I need a root canal?
Root canal therapy may be the best option for your tooth if it is severely injured, infected, or decayed. If the tooth is left untreated, it may die and require extraction. Through root canal therapy, we can restore the health of the tooth and avoid the need for removing the tooth.
